Axis Sochi:Sochi digital building makes giant 3D selfies

2014/2/21 13:05:2403445

British architect and designer Asif Khan conceived this project that transforms selfies taken by visitors to the Sochi Olympics into gigantic 3D projections. The 3D selfies appear on the kinetic facade of a 2,000 square meter cube in the Olympic Park in Sochi; visitors scan their face, then check the schedule to see when it will appear. The technology used to create the portraits consists of 11,000 mechanical actuators within the pavilion's facade behind a stretchy fabric membrane.

Khan, who was commissioned to create the project by Russian firm MegaFon, was also responsible for designing Coke's pavilion in the London Olympic Park during the London 2012 Games.
